Self care isn’t just mani/pedis and massages. I sincerely apologize if I made you think that it was. If you played Self Care Bingo, you had the opportunity to see just that.
My Definition of Self Care
Self care is anything that you need to do to make yourself a priority. At that moment, I choose myself. It’s my time to be still. Self care should bring you joy…(I feel like Marie Kondo right now). Keep in mind that self care looks different for everyone,
What Self Care Isn’t
Self care has become the buzzword and a popular hashtag! FYI if you are doing it just to post it, then it probably isn’t really self care. Self care isn’t a band aid for underlying problems. There isn’t a bubble bath, deep tissue massage, or facial that can cure depression. Self care shouldn’t make you feel bad. Self care shouldn’t feel like an obligation.
My Favorite Self Care Quotes
“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” -Audre Lorde
“Don’t sacrifice yourself too much, because if you sacrifice too much there’s nothing else you can give, and nobody will care for you.” -Karl Lagerfeld
“The challenge is not to be perfect-it is to be whole.” -Jane Fonda
“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” -Anne Lamot
Self Care Check In
I like to give myself a monthly self care audit or check in using my Self Awareness Planner. I also have a Self Care Journal (check out my amazon storefront) and the prompt is What did you do today to take care of yourself? Believe it or not, it keeps me balanced.
Here are some questions to ask yourself:
What do I need to do to take better care of myself?
How can I be kinder to myself?
What is my definition of self care?
Guess what? Taking the time to read this blog is actually self care!
