You know how the saying goes, “You learn something new every day.” This is true and I have decided to share the top 3 things that I learned in the month of July.
Here they are:
- The Comet. Apparently there was a comet last month. It was comet NEOWISE and it was supposed to appear in the evening sky, but we never saw it. Matter of fact, my family and I stood outside three nights in a row to see and NOTHING. I have yet to find anyone who has. It win’t be back for another 6,800 years so we won’t ever see it. What is a comet anyway? Not that green cleaner in a can! A comet is a snowball of frozen gases, rock and dust that orbit the sun. I would have loved to see one!
- Virtual Learning vs Distance Learning. I totally thought that these were the same but nope, they are not. As parents are making the decision about the upcoming school year, there is an option to return in person or choose virtual learning. In March, schools were closed and students finished the year with distance learning. My son was in PreK and we used the Seesaw app to complete assignments. His teacher would record a video with instructions and we would upload the completed assignments via the portal. Virtual learning is an online teaching environment where teachers and students can engage in learning and interact. The key difference between distance and virtual learning is that virtual learning takes place in a live setting. Both options are safer than in person learning.
- People Still Don’t Want To Wear a Mask. As of August 2, 2020, there are 10,384 total COVID cases and 560 total deaths in the City of New Orleans. The city remains in Phase 2 and EVERYONE must wear a mask or face covering when performing activities in public. For the life of me, I still do not understand why people still don’t want to wear a mask. Not wearing a mask is one of the most selfish things you can do right now. Face masks help prevent the spread of COVID-19. It is not known if face shields provide any benefit as source control to protect others from the spray of respiratory particles. CDC does not recommend use of face shields for normal everyday activities or as a substitute for masks.
What have you learned? I would love to hear!
Oh, Breonna Taylor was murdered and her killers are STILL FREE.
